Haitian-like genetic traits with creeping MIC of Azithromycin in Vibrio cholerae O1 isolates from Puducherry, India.
Conclusion. None of the isolates were the prototype El Tor biotype. All the isolates were a Haitian variant. The presence of SXT elements across all our isolates and their creeping MIC of azithromycin is a matter of concern. Further testing for other genetic determinants of resistance will be carried out in our future studies. PMID: 31961790 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

UK raises alarm on deadly rise of superbugs
Britain to call for G8 action against spread of drug-resistant bacteria by clamping down on overuse of antibioticsBritain is to urge the G8 to take action against the spread of drug-resistant microbes as medical and veterinary experts warn that co-ordinated international action is needed to prevent soaring rates of potentially lethal infections turning into a public health catastrophe.David Willetts, the science minister, will propose far-reaching measures that would clamp down on the overuse of antibiotics by GPs and hospital doctors. He will also try to restrict usage on farms and fisheries, where the drugs are blended w...

Inpatient antibiotics pharmacology and physiological use in Hayatabad medical complex, Pakistan.
Authors: Khan S, Shehzad A, Shehzad O, Al-Suhaimi EA Abstract Antibiotics are used commonly and as powerful medicines, it well known that they affect the variety and composition of the microflora which has important physiological roles, therefore and for other health complications, the aim of the current study was to evaluate and estimate the appropriateness of antimicrobial drugs use in Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Peshawar, Pakistan. The present work is based on the hospitalized patient's case studies. Individual patients were interviewed using the prepared questionnaire for the study. All hospitalized patien...

First large-scale study of antimicrobial susceptibility data, and genetic resistance determinants, in Fusobacterium necrophorum highlighting the importance of continuing focused susceptibility trend surveillance
CONCLUSIONS: Susceptibility to antibiotics recommended for the treatment of F. necrophorum infections should not be assumed. With evidence of potential ARG transmission from oral bacteria, and the detection of a transposon-mediated beta-lactamase resistance determinant in F. necrophorum, surveillance of both phenotypic and genotypic antimicrobial susceptibility trends must continue, and increase.PMID:36871786 | DOI:10.1016/j.anaerobe.2023.102717

Drug resistance of clinical and environmental isolates of Brucella species in Iran: a meta-analysis
Conclusion: Our study revealed that the prevalence of drug resistance of Brucella species isolated from clinical and environmental samples in Iran was acceptable and low. However, care should be exercised in the use of common antibiotics for the treatment of brucellosis to prevent the spread of drug resistance.

An overview of tetracyclines and related resistance mechanisms
Tetracyclines are one of the most well known antimicrobial agents. These are often prescribed against Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms. The latest studies indicate that the resistance to tetracyclines is rising throughout the world. The aim of this study was to find out more about the reasons behind bacterial resistance to tetracycline. We performed a selective literature search by studying several articles which mentioned tetracyclines and their resistance mechanisms in various bacteria. We found that a rise in antibiotic resistance to tetracyclines is alarming. The most important mechanisms are ribosomal protect...

Group A Streptococcus Antibiotic Resistance in Iranian Children: A Meta-analysis.
Conclusions: Our findings suggest penicillin (in non-allergic children) and macrolides, lincosamides, and narrow-spectrum cephalosporins (in penicillin-allergic children) as the treatments of choice in Iran. PMID: 33585043 [PubMed]

How Is Hidradenitis Suppurativa Treated?
Discussion Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a recurrent, chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicles particularly in the apocrine gland-bearing areas of the axilla, inguinal, perianal, mammary and inframammary areas. Onset is usually after puberty, in the early 20s. It is more common in females than males. Prevalence is estimated to be 0.05- 4.1%. It can be associated with premature adrenarche, metabolic syndrome and obesity. The lesions are often pruritic, painful, and with malodorous purulent drainage. It often begins with comedomes and tender nodules, and can easily progress to painful abscesses with purulent f...
